Years later Pop began touring with Bowie and released several solo albums including ‘The Idiot’ and ‘Lust for Life.’ Both of the albums featured Bowie’s lyrics and were released under his production during the late 1970s. The Stooges as well got disbanded once more. He later got to the headlines for all the wrong reasons after he became involved in a brawl with a group of bikers. Iggy Pop by then was struggling with the persistent problem of drug addiction. with this, it was the beginning of a new ‘Iggy culture’ that would be remembered in the coming decades. He performed bare-chested and often throw over himself off the stage, rolling over peanut butter and broken glass while he exposes himself to the audience and even insulting them. He got influenced by the stage presence of Jim Morrison that led him to build his own outrageous stage persona. They first played at a Halloween party with the members of MC5 in attendance. He began his career as the lead vocalist of the newly formed band ‘The Stooges’ together with Ron Asheton on guitar, Dave Alexander on bass, and Scott Asheton (Ron Asheton’s brother) on drums, in 1967.
He later relocated to Chicago where he played drums in blues clubs and came in touch with musician Sam Lay who connected him with many other like-minded musicians. He joined the University of Michigan for a short while before dropping out to pursue a career in music. He got Inspired by the band, he took the stage name of Iggy Pop. He met ‘The Iguanas’, an American garage rock band formed in Ann Arbor, with whom he performed for several years. While he was a student he couldn’t let go of any opportunity to perform and played with various high school bands in Ann Arbor, Michigan. With his former girlfriend Paulette Benson, they have one grown child (son) named: Paulette Benson. He later married his second wife Suchi Asano in 1984, the pair lived together for almost fourteen years before ending in divorce in 1998.
However, in 1970, he welcomed a son named Eric Benson with his girlfriend at that time, Paulette Benson. Before he was married to Wendy Weissberg in 1968 but the marriage was annulled in November 1969. They later tied the knot in November 2008. Pop is married to his long-term partner Nina Alu, an air hostess, the pair in 1999 and they began living together the following in 2000. He grew up in a trailer park in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He is born of English, German, and Irish descent from his father’s side, and Danish and Norwegian ancestry from his mother’s side.
